HORROR: FIVE OF THE DARKEST ANIME SCENES EVER.

Every fan has that scene. The one that gives you goosebumps. Sometimes, these scenes are renowned by the entire animeverse. Other times, they're not. It just had its effect on you, like a chill down your spine, or a trigger of your emotions.

Scenes like this should be praised for how well written and produced they are, evident in the effects they have on viewers. Here are five horrific scenes in anime;

A LIVING ROOM MASSACRE. (INUYASHIKI)

Hiro Shishigami, student cum cyborg, decides to test his powers on a killing spree, and he chooses a young family to unleash on. He casually trots into a family home and kills everyone, including the child. There's no music in this scene. Just the eerie mimicking sounds of the killer, the bloody view and the cries of the little boy before he gets sent on his way as well. It's pure terror.

LONDON NAZI INVASION. (HELLSING ULTIMATE)

In an immensely graphic turn of events, the Nazi Millennium Organization lays siege to London, and their vampire soldiers put civilians and commuters to death in the worst ways possible. In the midst of all this, a baby gets eaten. The entire scene transcended chaos. This was a city being picked apart, at the mercy of mindless monsters.

PUPPY SCENE. (ELFEN LIED)

This scene reveals the reason for Lucy's heartless and ferocious personality. It all comes down to a little puppy she cherished during her orphanage days that ended up being beaten to death by bullies. While the beating of the puppy is not exactly shown fully, Lucy's screams and cries trigger not just horror, but also brings that splash of emotion that tugs at the heart of every viewer, but the real terror lies in the brutal murder of the bullies using her psychic abilities. 

THE ECLIPSE. (BERSERK)

The Eclipse drops Guts and The Band of the Hawk into hell, basically, right in the path of Apostles who so gladly massacre them. Limbs severed, flesh torn off, bodies skinned and eaten alive, Casca’s kismet, the inconsequential rage hanging in the air…this scene is one of the scariest masterpieces in anime history. It depicts death in a fashion so horrendous, yet so poetic.

CENTIPEDE TORTURE. (TOKYO GHOUL)

Kaneki is chained and tortured extremely by Yamori, with a centipede inserted in his ear. He does this in a bid to gain control of his victims mind, and it cracks down on Kaneki’s psyche, literally. His screams, coupled with the calmness of his torturer makes this scene not just scary, but off putting. 

Scenes like these ones make your skin crawl with fear and disgust, but you just can't help but applaud how practical it's been depicted, and how compelling it is.
