RICE AND RUIN (TV ANIME SPECIAL): THE REVIEW
By Marka Gbane • 2/20/2026

Four days ago, the first of a double part TV anime special Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin dropped.
In the new release, goddess Sakuna and her friend Kokorowa find themselves on Hinoe Island, where a lot more than rice farming awaits them.
Things seem far from okay with their friendship hanging by a thread, but with the adversities of the island facing them, joining forces to survive is the right thing to do for the greater good.
With Kokorowa’s tools— that double as farming equipment and weapons of battle —they can carry further, living on Hinoe Island, but for how long?
How long will the weapons last before they give out?
How much more monsters can the goddess and her friend take down before it all comes crumbling down like a sequence of dominoes?
How much longer will Kokorowa and Sakuna remain friends?
So, when the scales are tipped against them, and the foes just keep on multiplying, what will be the fate of this duo?
The first part of this special, available on Crunchyroll, ends in a scintillating cliffhanger.
The second part comes out on February 22, 2026.
This is one of the short and sweet ones. Tap in.
